Three men in India were arrested for allegedly gangraping a 13-year-old girl, the police said Wednesday.
The accused reportedly filmed the act and threatened to leak it if the minor went to the police.
The incident occurred in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. A woman — identified as the survivor’s neighbor and also an accomplice to the crime — was also arrested, IANS reported.
The incident came to light when the victim’s mother filed a complaint with the police. In the complaint, the woman alleged three men raped the girl, and filmed the act. They also threatened to circulate the video across social media platforms. It wasn’t clear when the incident took place.
“On basis of the complaint received from the victim’s family, an FIR has been registered against three men and a woman under IPC sections 376D (gangrape), 506 (criminal intimidation), 342 (wrongful confinement), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and sections of the POCSO Act. The entire matter is being investigated in detail,” senior police officer Vishal Kumar said, The Times of India reported.
The complaint stated the teenager was abducted, and locked up in a room by the accused woman. Three men then came into the room and allegedly gang-raped her. They later let the teenager leave in the evening.
The victim’s mother said: “We had approached the nearby police outpost on Sunday to file a complaint but policemen there pressured us to reach a compromise with the accused. However, when the matter came to the notice of senior officials, they registered an FIR in the case.”
The accused were arrested Tuesday night, and an investigation was underway into the incident.
In the western Indian state of Gujarat, a 27-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by five men in front of her boyfriend Sunday night. The accused reportedly fled away with their mobiles after allegedly raping the woman, Times Now reported.
The woman was sitting with her partner on the roadside when the accused arrived at the scene. The men started giving orders to the couple, but when they refused to follow, the boy was brutally thrashed by the men and tied up. The woman was then gang-raped by the men.
