A 17-year-old boy has been stabbed to death in what police believe was a “targeted attack” in Cambridge, England, Saturday.
Police received a call from the ambulance service after the boy, whose identity has not been released, was stabbed at about 2:52 p.m. Saturday near Logan’s Meadow, a small reserve next to the River Cam, the Guardian reported.
Emergency responders tried to revive the unnamed teenager, but the boy was declared dead at around 2:56 p.m., according to the Cambridgeshire constabulary.
Police have launched a murder investigation into the teen’s death.
Investigators were following several leads but believed that the attack was “targeted,” detective superintendent Carl Foster, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire major crime unit, said.
“While we are unable to confirm the cause of death until a postmortem examination has been conducted, we believe the boy was stabbed in a targeted attack,” he said, according to the outlet. “We are following several leads and carrying out inquiries to find those responsible. However, no arrests have yet been made.”
Police have urged the members of the public who were at the scene and spoke with paramedics to come forward and provide any information related to the case to authorities.
“I am directly appealing for these people to make contact with us please,” Foster added. “I would appeal to anyone with information to get in touch with us as a matter of urgency.”

In other news, a 67-year-old man was jailed after he was found to be in the possession of a revolver, bullets and taser in his home in Cambridge.
David Fairbairn was sentenced to eight years in prison following his appearance at Cambridge Crown Court Thursday, Cambridgeshire Live reported.
Fairbairn was found guilty of perverting the course of justice after an eight-week trial. He pleaded guilty to possession of ammunition without a certificate, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a firearm less than 30 centimeters and possession of a firearm when prohibited for life.
Police raided the home of Fairbairn in Ermine Way, Arrington, in April 2020. Authorities found a revolver-type handgun together with ammunition.
