One person is dead and four people were injured Saturday in Wisconsin after they were stabbed while tubing on the Apple River.
The suspect, a 52-year-old Minnesota man, was taken into custody by the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office. He had been identified by a bystander, who took a photo of him. The sheriff’s office said the suspect was apprehended without incident.
The victim, a 17-year-old boy from Minnesota, had been taken to a hospital before he was pronounced dead. The four surviving victims were three men and one woman, all in their early 20s. They are all in critical condition.

The stabbing occurred in the village of Somerset, located about 35 miles northeast of Minneapolis.
“I’m sure that anybody that witnessed it will never forget it. It is a tragedy,” said St. Croix County Sheriff Scott Knudson.
“I have not seen anything like this to this extent,” Knudson said. He described the situation as “scary” and “chaotic.”
The victims were stabbed in a “hard to reach” area of the tubing river. Knudson said that the deputies had to wade through 100 yards of waist-deep water to reach where they were located.
Multiple other tubers had passed by the crime scene.
The names of the victims and the suspect have not been identified.
Police have not announced a motive for the attack. There is no further threat to the public, the sheriff’s office said.
The Apple River is a popular summer location that attracts regional visitors.
