The half-naked body of a missing 7-year-old girl was reportedly found in a secluded area near a crematory in India.
The child had injuries on her private parts when she was found, local media reported. The girl was allegedly kidnapped Monday night, while she was on her way to a store in her neighborhood in the northern state of Haryana to buy firecrackers, the Hindustan Times reported.
When she did not return for a long time, her family started searching for her and also informed the police, before filing a missing complaint. The body of the victim, who has not been identified, was first spotted by some local residents, who then informed the police.
The police said that they have not ruled out sexual assault because of the injuries sustained by the victim on her genitals. A case has been filed under sections 302 and 365 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), according to Panipat superintendent of police Shashank Kumar Sawan.
Authorities are searching for the accused in the case. However, they did not reveal if they have any suspects in the incident. The police also offered a bounty of nearly $600 for any information leading to the offenders, Hari Bhoomi reported [Google Translate showed].
An autopsy was conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
The police are awaiting the results that can help in their investigation.
