An 8-year-old boy in India bit and killed a cobra in an act of revenge.
According to local media reports, the deadly reptile had bitten the boy after wrapping itself around the child’s hand.
The boy, identified only by his first name Deepak, was playing in the backyard of his house when he encountered the snake. The incident took place in the state of Chhattisgarh, Siasat reported.
Initially, the boy tried to get rid of the snake, but when he failed, he bit the reptile twice hard, resulting in its death. The boy was immediately rushed to a hospital, where he was given an anti-snake venom injection. The boy luckily survived as the snake did not release venom when it bit him.
“The snake got wrapped around my hand and bit me. I was in great pain. As the reptile didn’t budge when I tried to shake it off, I bit it hard twice. It all happened in a flash,” the boy said, according to the New Indian Express.
The child was released from the hospital after being kept under observation for a day.
“Deepak didn’t show any symptoms and recovered fast owing to the dry bite when the poisonous snake strikes but no venom is released. Such snakebites are painful and may show only local symptoms around the area of bite,” explained Qaiser Hussain, a snake expert.
Cobras are highly venomous snakes, and a member of the “big four” species. These snakes vary in color and pattern throughout their range.
Many specimens exhibit a hood mark. Indian cobras are native to the Indian subcontinent and can also be found in Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and southern Nepal.
In a similar incident in Turkey, a 2-year-old girl bit and killed a snake. The girl was playing in the garden behind her house when she was bitten by the snake. Neighbors rushed to the scene when they heard a scream. When they arrived at the scene, they found the child with the snake still in her mouth. Neighbors also found a bite mark on the girl’s lower lip.
