Aamer Sohail feels that Pakistan cricket should focus more on grooming budding players than on new captaincy. His comments came as Babar Azam’s captaincy has come under scrutiny after recent defeats at home.

Pakistan faced a humiliating 0-3 whitewash at home in a Test series against England. Later, they lost an ODI series against New Zealand at home 1-2. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) new chairman Najam Sethi is going to take a call on Babar Azam’s future captaincy on Monday.

I Do Not Agree That Change in Captaincy Will Bring Any Significant Progress: Aamer Sohail

While speaking to Dawn News, Aamer Sohail said that he dosent feel change in captaincy will bring any progress. Sohail feels that the team should focsus on grooming players instead of captaincy.

“I do not agree that change in captaincy will bring any significant progress. Is there a guarantee that a new skipper will result in improved showing by the team? Instead of captaincy, focus should be on grooming budding players, which Pakistan definitely has in abundance,” Aamer Sohail said.

Aamer Sohail also feels that Pakistan bowlers will need to improve their tactics to get ready for ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in India. The ICC tournament will take place in October-November this year in India.

“Pakistan’s bowlers definitely have to improve more to get themselves ready for batter-friendly tracks in India where most pitches generally produce ODI totals in the range of 300-330. Our team should plan to enable the bowlers to restrict the opposition to around 270-280. Similarly, our batters should eye a higher than average totals of 300-plus that can give our bowlers room to put pressure on the opposition,” Aamer Sohail further said.
