Adele got emotional when she returned to the stage in front of a live audience this week for her first concert in five years.
The multi-Grammy Award winner headlined London’s British Summer Time (BST) Hyde Park Festival, where she was visibly overcome with emotion while performing for the crowd of 65,000 Friday, New York Post’s Page Six reported.
“My God, I’m back at home,” Adele said as she was performing her first song. “It’s so strange to be in front of a crowd again. I get so nervous before each show, but I love being up here.”
Adele’s fans were ecstatic to see her perform live again. Concertgoer Alana Sulway, 24, told the New York Post, “It was an unforgettable night.”
“I lucked out getting a ticket in the first place, so it was unreal to see her [Adele] sing in front of a live audience after all this time,” the London resident added.
Adele sent out water to her fans after learning that some of them had waited for over seven hours in the heat just to see her perform, according to Page Six.
She also stopped her two-hour-long set four times to get help for several concertgoers who needed medical attention, the report said.
Sulway praised the “Someone Like You” hitmaker for “[putting] the safety of her fans before anything else.”
“Anytime the crowd waved her down, she stopped singing and got her security to help. It’s not something you tend to see so often,” the fan told the outlet.
Adele wore a black halter neck off-the-shoulder gown for the show. She revealed to the audience that she was wearing black anti-slip socks under the elegant dress
“I was told it was going to be slippery so wore these just in case,” she told concertgoers as she showed them her socks.
Adele’s boyfriend Rich Paul, 40, attended the BST Hyde Park Festival to support the singer. The sports manager was photographed sitting next to Adele’s ex-husband Simon Konecki, 38, during her gig.
The two were seated next to Cameron Diaz and her husband Benji Madden during the show.
Adele and Konecki tied the knot in 2017 and welcomed their son Angelo, 9, five years prior. They split in April 2019, and she filed for divorce in September that year. They finalized their divorce in 2021.
The “Easy On Me” singer previously talked about her divorce from Konecki in an interview with Oprah Winfrey in November 2021.
“It was just exhausting trying to keep going with it. It’s a process — the process of a divorce, the process of being a single parent, the process of not seeing your child every single day wasn’t really a plan that I had when I became a mom,” she shared.
Adele and Paul first went public with their romance in July 2021. The singer told Winfrey that her relationship with the sports agent was the first time she’s “loved myself and been open to loving and being loved by someone else.”
“It’s just timing,” she added. “But it’d be interesting to see what my reaction is like in general to anything that hurts me now that I feel so secure in myself, and I’m talking outside of romance as well.”
