Brisbane’s grand final preparations have commenced in perfect style, with star midfielder Ally Anderson crowned the AFLW’s best player of season seven in the most thrilling count in the competition’s seven-season history.
Anderson became the second consecutive Lions player to claim the AFLW best and fairest award after Emily Bates’ triumph in season six, polling 21 votes to win from Richmond’s Monique Conti.
The 28-year-old claimed the award, despite not being named in the All-Australian team earlier in the night.

Anderson led Conti, GWS’ Alyce Parker, Adelaide’s Ebony Marinoff and Essendon’s Madison Prespakis by one vote with two rounds left in the count. Both Anderson and Conti polled three votes each in Round 9, with only one vote separating the duo with one round left.
Conti polled two votes against North Melbourne in the final round to briefly take a one-vote lead, before Anderson usurped the Tigers star with the final three votes of the count to win by two.
Remarkably, Conti received no votes for her 30-disposal performance against Carlton in Round 8.
