There are eight players in the 2022 MLB Home Run Derby, and the betting odds suggest that a couple of contestants have a strong chance to win the competition. Back-to-back champion Pete Alonso is the favorite, though Kyle Schwarber isn’t far behind him.
Alonso leads the field with +200 odds at DraftKings Sportsbook to win Monday’s Home Run Derby at Dodger Stadium. The only other player with better than +600 odds, Schwarber has +330 odds to become the new Home Run Derby champion.
Juan Soto, who was defeated by Alonso in the semifinals of last year’s Home Run Derby, is given the third-best chance with +600 odds. Ronald Acuna Jr. has +650 odds.
There was no 2020 Home Run Derby because of the pandemic. Alonso won the contest in 2019 and 2021. The New York Mets’ first baseman is tied for fifth in MLB with 24 home runs at the All-Star break. Ken Griffey Jr. is the only three-time Home Run Derby champion. No player has ever won the Derby three years in a row.
Schwarber has the most regular-season homers of any player who is competing Monday. The Philadelphia Phillies’ slugger leads the NL and ranks second in MLB wirth 29 homers. Schwarber has 11 home runs in the last month.
Schwarber and Albert Pujols will meet in the first round. Pujols has six home runs in what’s expected to be the final season of his Hall-of-Fame career. With +2200 odds, Pujols is the biggest long shot on the board.

Acuna only has eight home runs because he’s been limited to 59 games because of injuries. The Atlanta Braves’ outfielder had 24 homers in 82 games last season. Acuna and Alonso are set to face off in the first round Monday.
Julio Rodriguez (+850) and Corey Seager (+900) will go head-to-head in the first round in a battle of All-Star AL shortstops. Rodriguez hit 16 home runs before the break as a rookie for the Seattle Mariners, which have won 14 games in a row. In his first season with the Texas Rangers, Seager is sixth in the AL with 22 home runs.
The odds are against Jose Ramirez (+1600) in his first-round matchup with Soto. Ramirez has 19 home runs after hitting 36 last season.
Aaron Judge is not in the 2022 Home Run Derby, despite leading all of baseball with 33 home runs.
