Amazon announced Tuesday it would expand the amount of free music and podcasts on Amazon Music to Prime members.
Prime members had access to roughly 2 million songs. They will now have access to more than 100 million songs with no ads, according to Amazon.
“We continue to innovate on behalf of our customers, and to bring even more entertainment to Prime members, on top of the convenience and value they already enjoy,” Steve Boom, VP of Amazon Music, said a the press release.
“We can’t wait for members to experience not only a massively expanded catalog of songs, but also the largest selection of ad-free top podcasts anywhere, at no additional cost to their membership.”
A membership with Amazon Prime also offers Prime Video, Prime Gaming, Prime Reading, and Amazon Photos for $14.99 a month.
The price of Amazon Music is higher compared to its competitors that also offer a subscription music service like Spotify which costs $9.99 and Apple Music at $4.99 per month.
A paid subscription with Spotify and Apple Music allows users to choose a specific song but Amazon Music only allows users to listen by shuffling artists, albums or playlists.
According to a report on global usage of streaming music subscriptions in 2021, Spotify came in first at 31%, Apple Music came in second at 15%, and Amazon Music came in third at 13%.
Music streaming apps generated $25.1 billion in revenue in 2021, according to a Music Streaming App Revenue and Usage Statistics report.
