Over a dozen Democratic Party lawmakers were arrested in front of the United States Supreme Court on Tuesday for taking part in a protest for abortion rights. Among the lawmakers arrested were members of ‘The Squad’, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY.

On Tuesday, a group of 17 lawmakers joined protestors in front of the Supreme Court, whose conservative majority overturned the landmark 1973 ruling of Roe v. Wade that guaranteed the right to an abortion. Led by Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Calif., the lawmakers vowed to continue fighting to maintain access to abortion.

At about 1:20 PM, the U.S. Capitol Police wrote on Twitter that it began arresting activists blocking First Street NE and 15 minutes later announced that they cleared out the demonstration. In all, the police said that they detained 17 Democratic members of the House.

UPDATE: We made a total of 34 arrests for Crowding, Obstructing or Incommoding (DC Code § 22–1307).

That arrest number includes 16 Members of Congress.

Video footage was posted of officers escorting several of the congresswomen away from the protest area. In one video, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez could be seen being walked away from the scene with another protester by an officer. The New York progressive can be seen with her hands behind her back before raising a fist as she’s led away.

Neither Ocasio-Cortez nor her office have yet commented on her arrest by the Capitol Police.

Others were also caught on film being led away by the Capitol Police, including Rep. Cori Bush, D-MO., and Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass. Photos were also released of other congresswomen being arrested including Assistant Speaker of the House Rep. Katherine Clark, D-Mass., and Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-NY.

After the protest was cleared, Speier wrote on Twitter that she was “Proud” to march with her Democratic colleagues “and get arrested for women’s rights, abortion rights, the rights for people to control their own bodies and the future of our democracy!”

Proud to march with my Democratic colleagues including ⁦⁦@DemWomenCaucus⁩ members, and get arrested for women’s rights, abortion rights, the rights for people to control their own bodies and the future and our democracy! #BansOffOurBodies #WeWontGoBack pic.twitter.com/tnSlo7hvXf
