Australia takes on South Africa in the third and final Test of the three-match series in Sydney starting from January 4. The Aussies have already won the series and are looking for a possible whitewash. Both teams will play a three-match ODI series after the end of the Test match. The Test series is a part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship.
Australia are topping the WTC points table and are favourites at this point to make the final. They have won 10, drawn three and lost just one Test match in the meantime. The Aussies are supremely confident of making it 3-0 in the tour.

Their batters are in form and their bowling group are potent enough even without the likes of Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green. Josh Hazlewood is not a part of the Test series for the Aussies.
South Africa, on the other hand, have lost four back to back Test matches in the last few months. They lost two against England in September and now two against the Aussies.

South Africa last won a Test match against England at Lord’s. They looked confident while playing India at the start of 2022. The side has looked timid against the Aussies and their batting group has failed collectively.

The Aussies will be without Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green for the third Test. Both of them are ruled out with finger injuries. Ashton Agar and Matt Renshaw has been named as replacements. The Australian Cricket Board thinks that the SCG pitch might have a bit of turn and bounce which is why they have added Agar to the side. He will pair up with Nathan Lyon.
Their batting department is led by David Warner who is fresh off a double ton in his 100th Test match. The likes of Steve Smith, Alex Carey and Travis Head scored runs as well. Thus all in all the Aussies are in a happy place heading into SCG Test.

As said earlier, South Africa’s batting group has failed as a unit. Lack of form from skipper Dean Elgar has hurt the batting-order badly. Their middle-order has also not contributed and the side also lacks batting depth.
Theunis de Bruyn will miss the Sydney Test due to the birth of his first child. He did not contribute massively in the first two Tests either. He scored 12 and 28 in the two innings of the MCG Test.
Speaking about the bowling attack, Kagiso Rabada has looked in good form bagging 10 wickets in the series so far. His bowling partner Anrich Nortje has taken five from the first two Tests. Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon have taken 8 wickets each. The biggest challenge for the bowlers will be to dismiss the likes of David Warner and Steve Smith quickly.
