Brad Haddin has lifted the lid on his infamous clash with Sulieman Benn and revealed the West Indies bowler threatened to stab him.

Back in 2009, Benn was suspended for two ODI and Australian wicketkeeper Haddin and paceman Mitchell Johnson were fined following a heated on-field altercation between the trio.

The incident happened during the first Test of the 2009-10 summer when Benn collided with non-striker Johnson while trying to field a ball.

Words were exchanged between the pair and two balls later Haddin became involved, pointing his bat at Benn after the bowling shaped to throw at the striker’s end with the batsman standing in his crease.

The three players then became embroiled in a heated exchange at the end of the over, with Benn pointing at Haddin over Johnson’s shoulder.

Haddin was commentating the match between Australia and the West Indies on Sunday and revealed what went down at the WACA 13 years ago.

“He used to want to sledge us but he didn’t really want us to hear which wasn’t a great character trait,” Haddin said of Benn on Triple M.

“But then he said something really weird, we were about to head to the T20 World Cup and he said ‘You two won’t get out alive in Barbados, I will stab you’ and I said ‘beg your pardon’ and that then is when it got misty and I don’t really know what happened after that.

“You’re sticking up for your mate, we’ve always been close Jonno and I so I’ve just gone in and pointed the bat and said ‘this is on now, you can’t say things like that’.”

Haddin was docked 25 per of his match fee by the match referee Chris Broad after pleading guilty to a Level 1 Code of Conduct offence for bringing the game into disrepute.

“And he said ‘Hads what are you doing?’ And I said ‘mate that was all worth it, I’m happy to pay 25 per cent’.”

Johnson was fined 10 per cent of his match fee for his role in the incident.
