Geelong coach Chris Scott has played down comments he made following the side’s round three win over Collingwood as the sides prepare to face off for a spot in a preliminary final.
The Cats in early April overcame a 30-point deficit to seal a famous comeback victory against the Pies at the MCG.
Speaking after the side’s win, Scott said on 3AW of the Pies: “Collingwood play a style that’s very, very hard to maintain and we had some confidence that if it did turn a little bit around the ball and around the contest, we’d get some good looks ahead of it.”

The 2022 version of Collingwood has made a habit out of clutching victory from the jaws of defeat and has at times been motivated by those at rival clubs who publicly doubt them.
Presented with the comments on Monday night’s Footy Classified, Scott didn’t believe his comments should be perceived as a slight.
“It‘s not too bad, is it? It‘s a compliment and they should take it as such. It’s a reference to the fact they play a very, very high pressure game,” he said.
“Pressure points are a little flimsy in my opinion but they are ranked #2, so it means something. They do play a style that‘s frenetic and when it works, it’s hard to play against.
“I guess if you‘re looking at the other side of it, if you can hang in there well enough – and they played in a lot of close games, so that’s probably a reference to that.
“If you choose to play that way, and I mean the best team of the last six years at least Richmond who have been heavily influenced by Craig McRae and Justin Leppitsch play a similar style of game. So if you‘re going to mimic a method, that’s not a bad one to mimic.”
Geelong will enter Saturday night’s qualifying final on a 13-match winning streak.
