Demi Lovato gave an update on her pronouns in a new interview.

More than a year after coming out as non-binary and sharing that she would be using “they/them” pronouns, the 29-year-old pop star revealed on the “Spout” podcast Tuesday that she recently made the decision to use “she/her” again because she is “such a fluid person.”

The “Sorry Not Sorry” singer made the revelation after host Tamara Dhia told Lovato that she did not fully understand the meaning of using they/them pronouns and asked the musician if she could explain the significance.

“Yeah, so, ‘they/them’ is, um, I’ve actually adopted the pronouns of ‘she/her’ again,” Lovato explained on the podcast, as quoted by Entertainment Tonight. “So, for me, I’m such a fluid person that I don’t really … I don’t find that I am … I felt like, especially last year, my energy was balanced in my masculine and feminine energy so that when I was faced with the choice of walking into a bathroom and it said ‘women’ and ‘men,’ I didn’t feel like there was a bathroom for me because I didn’t feel necessarily like a woman. I didn’t feel like a man.”

Lovato said that she “just felt like a human” and that choosing to identify by the “they/them” pronouns, for her, was about “feeling human at your core.” She then explained that her recent pronoun change was due to some changes in her feelings lately.

“Recently, I’ve been feeling more feminine, and so I’ve adopted ‘she/her’ again,” she told the host. “But I think what’s important is, like, nobody’s perfect. Everyone messes up pronouns at some point, and especially when people are learning. It’s just all about respect.”

Lovato first announced she would use “they/them” pronouns in May 2021 when she came out as non-binary after “doing some healing and some reflective work.”

“Through this work, I’ve had the revelation that I identify as non-binary,”  she said on her podcast, “4D With Demi Lovato,” at the time. “With that said, I’ll officially be changing my pronouns to ‘they/them.’ I feel this best represents the fluidity I feel in my gender expression and allows me to feel most authentic and true to the person I both know I am and still am discovering.”

In recent months, Lovato had been dropping hints on social media about tapping into her full feminine energy again.

The “Skyscraper” hitmaker posted a series of photos of herself in April with the caption, “You call me they, but I’m still daddy’s girl…”

According to Out Magazine, Lovato quietly updated her pronouns on social media to read “they/them/she/her” on April 29, but it was her interview on “Spout” when she spoke a bit more about the change in depth.
