The highly-anticipated sequel of the hit anime series, “Dragon Ball Super” is confirmed in production and will reportedly roll out next year.
“Dragon Ball Super” TV anime series ended in March 2018 and after four years of speculations, it looks like the fan-favorite characters led by Son Goku will return next year to continue tales of his and his friends’ adventures. Industry insider DBSChronicles shared a new set of details about the upcoming anime and movie on Twitter.
According to them, a weekly “Dragon Ball” anime set after the Universal Survival Arc events is currently in production and will be on air sometime in 2023. The insider also noted that a new “Dragon Ball” movie after “Super Hero” is in pre-production with Japanese anime giant, Toei, planning to launch “new movies once in two to three years.”
The insider information was confirmed by the editor-in-chief of V-Jump and Saikyō Jump, Akio Iyoku. “Well, if you’re asking, a new entry on the series is already in the making,” Iyoku said in an interview. The editor-in-chief of the hit Japanese shōnen manga magazine also doubled down on the insider’s information about a new movie currently in the works.
“Super Hero took us five years to make, so it’s only natural we’re already working on what comes next! Toriyama-sensei himself is always working on new Dragon Ball concepts and ideas, after all. We’re all thinking about what we want to show the world next,” Iyoko said.
Unfortunately, these are the only details about the anime and movie for now. It may be recalled that the anime adaptation of “Dragon Ball Super” ended after 131 episodes four years ago and the team released two films for “DB Super;” the first one, which was released before 2018 ended and titled, “Dragon Ball Super: Broly,” took place after the Universal Survival Arc.
The current manga features a lot of exciting arcs that would hype the fandom, including the Moro Arc and Granola The Survivor Arc. It would be interesting to see what the team has prepared for the community that has been starved of anime action for a long time.
