Twitter will not allow previously banned users back onto the platform for at least another few weeks, tweeted the company’s new owner Elon Musk.
Users who have been banned for violating Twitter‘s content guidelines include former President Donald Trump, conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and, temporarily, rapper Kanye West.
Musk says the delay is necessary to develop a process to determine how and when banned users may return to the platform.
“Twitter obviously cannot become a free-for-all hellscape, where anything can be said with no consequences!” Musk tweeted Thursday.
Musk has proposed a “content moderation council” to oversee future bans.
Musk did not provide further details other than to say the proposed council “will include representatives with widely divergent views, which will certainly include the civil rights community and groups who face hate-fueled violence.”
Musk’s $44 billion acquisition formally closed Friday.
