Sri Lanka registered their biggest loss in ODI cricket in terms of runs against India in the third ODI in Thiruvananthapuram. The Lankan Lions lost the final ODI by 317 runs to be clean-swept in the series after being bowled out for 73. They played six games on this tour and won just one game to cap off a forgetful tour. In the year of the ODI World Cup, this Sri Lankan performance gives them concerns to be worried about.

Sri Lanka lost the T20I series 2-1 and were completely outplayed in the ODI series with Team India not giving any room for a comeback. Former Sri Lankan all-rounder Farveez Mahroof has slammed the current players for conceding the series. He said the third ODI loss capped off one of the most embarrassing days in Sri Lankan cricket.

Most Embarrassing Days For Sri Lankan Cricket: Farveez Mahroof

“One of the most embarrassing days of Sri Lankan cricket for sure. It would be remembered for a record the Sri Lankan team would not want to have in their careers. The way Sri Lanka bowled and fielded and the way they batted, especially, some of the soft dismissals, (it’s) just not good enough in international cricket,” Mahroof told ESPNCricinfo.

Wasim Jaffer the other expert on that panel hailed India’s new-ball bowlers for the way they bowled in the second innings. They bowled out Sri Lanka for 73 as Mohammed Siraj picked up two wickets and Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav picked two each.

“This Indian attack, especially with the new ball, looks formidable. Umran Malik wasn’t playing today, but the way Siraj bowled and even (Mohammed) Shami for that matter… The pitch didn’t look easy but it just seemed like Sri Lanka did not turn up. India just outplayed them,” he said.

He further said that it was the right decision from Indian skipper Rohit Sharma to bat on that wicket of Thiruvananthapuram. He and Shubman Gill (116) added 95 for the first wicket to lay the platform for India’s mammoth total.

“It was a good decision to bat on that wicket. It did look like it was tough to score. But the way Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma started, there was some outstanding cricket played. Phenomenal innings from Kohli; some extraordinary hitting – eight sixes, which we don’t see with Kohli very often,” Jaffer concluded saying.
