The Colorado Buffaloes coaching staff is getting some love in the offseason.
The additions of Phil McGeoghan and Mike Sanford on the offensive end are terrific steps in the right direction.
However, one defensive assistant who got a shoutout is defensive line coach Gerald Chatman.
Matt Zenitz of On3 wrote a piece on rising assistant coaches and gave a warm mention to Chatman.
Here’s some of what Zenitz said about Chatman:
Before LSU, Chatman worked with the linebacker and defensive line groups with the Bengals, including assisting with eight-time Pro Bowl selection Geno Atkins, two-time Pro Bowler Carlos Dunlap and productive younger players such as Sam Hubbard and Carl Lawson. Aided by Chatman, Hubbard – a 2018 third-round pick – broke out as a second-year player in 2019 and had 76 tackles and 8.5 sacks.
Chatman has enjoyed his share of success, and his NFL presence is something that Karl Dorrell is going to love (McGeoghan also has NFL ties).
Of course, Chatman’s path to Boulder was different than most. Chatman was headed to Tulane after Brian Kelly took the job at LSU and replaced a lot of the staff. But, Colorado came calling, and now Chatman is on Dorrell’s staff with the Buffs in the Pac-12 Conference.
It is nice to see Chatman get acknowledged as a rising assistant, and at the very least, the Buffs have a few assistants that might take other jobs sooner than later.
