The New York Jets and New York Giants get set for their annual preseason battle and will meet for the 53rd time in the past 54 summers. The only time they haven’t met since the rivalry began was in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Giants lead the all-time regular-season series 8-6 and have a 33-32-1 edge when adding in the preseason matchups. The Giants have also won four of the past five exhibition games with the Jets.

Kickoff from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., is set for 1 p.m. ET. The Jets are 4.5-point favorites in the latest Giants vs. Jets odds from Caesars Sportsbook, while the over/under for total points scored is set at 38. Before making any Jets vs. Giants picks or NFL predictions, see what SportsLine expert R.J. White has to say.

Over the past seven years White, a CBS Sports fantasy and gambling editor, has gone 329-250-21 (56.8 percent) in the world’s most prestigious football handicapping competition, the Las Vegas SuperContest. He also is SportsLine’s No. 1 NFL expert, going 445-378-24 on his against-the-spread NFL picks from 2017-21, returning $2,542 to $100 players.

In addition, White is 29-17 on his last 46 against-the-spread picks involving the Giants. Anyone who has followed him is way up.

Now, White has set his sights on Giants vs. Jets and just locked in his picks and NFL predictions. You can head to SportsLine now to see White’s picks. Here are several NFL odds and betting lines for Jets vs. Giants:

    Why the Jets can cover

The Jets’ starters will get a chance to show just how much they are improved over last season’s 4-13 disappointment. Running back Breece Hall, the rookie second-round pick from Iowa State, is expected to get his longest look of the preseason after carrying five times for 15 yards last week, including a long of eight yards against the Eagles. A week earlier, he was held to one yard on four rushes vs. the Falcons. The Jets are high on Hall, who rushed for nearly 4,000 yards in three seasons with the Cyclones. Last fall, he carried 253 times for 1,472 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Also expected to get a longer look this week will be tight end Tyler Conklin, a free agent who played for the Minnesota Vikings in 2021. Last season, Conklin played in all 17 games for Minnesota, catching a career-high 61 passes for 593 yards (9.7 average) and three touchdowns. In the preseason opener against the Eagles, Conklin caught three passes for 23 yards, including a long of 10 yards.

    Why the Giants can cover

Backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor is expected to see a good amount of action on Sunday. He has looked good in practice this week and during the preseason. In the two games, Taylor has completed 20-of-32 passes (62.5%) for 166 yards and one touchdown. He saw action in six games last year for the Houston Texans, completing 60.7% of his passes for 966 yards and five touchdowns. In his first 11 seasons in the league, he has played in 78 games for five different teams, completing 61.3% of his passes for 10,736 yards, 59 touchdowns and 25 interceptions.

Running back Saquon Barkley may see a short stint on the field. So far this preseason, he has carried just four times for 13 yards, but has also caught one pass for eight yards. The fifth-year veteran has been practicing this week at wide receiver as well as running back. For his career, Barkley has 190 receptions for 1,482 yards and eight touchdowns in 44 games played. He has also rushed 659 times for 2,937 yards (4.5 average) and 19 touchdowns.

How to make Giants vs. Jets picks

White has analyzed this matchup, and while we can tell you he’s leaning Over on the point total, he has also discovered a critical X-factor that has him jumping all over one side of the spread. He’s only sharing what it is, and which side to back, at SportsLine.
