For the first time in Big Bash history, the eight franchises will partake in an overseas player draft for the 2022-23 season.

A whopping 332 players from 20 different countries have put their hand up to play in what promises to be the biggest Big Bash season to date, although there will be no draft for domestic players.

BBL DRAFT LIVE: Big overseas guns up for grabs amid Aussie cricket history

The draft will be conducted over four rounds, with the Melbourne Renegades selecting first having won the draft lottery.

Teams are required to make a minimum of two picks, but a maximum of three.

Teams can also pass in rounds, but they have to have made at least one pick by the end of round two as well as two picks by the end of the third round.

Another factor that teams must weigh up is whether to retain one of their stars from last season.

Teams will have one retention pick to use in the draft, but should they select a different player in a round, they will not be able to use the retention pick later on in the round.

There is no scope for teams to trade picks, but it could be a new factor that is implemented in future drafts.

Another element all teams will have to consider is how long they will have a player available for.

Several international stars plan on participating in overlapping T20 tournaments overseas, meaning they would not be able to play for the full BBL season.
