Indian Cricket Team lost the 1st T20I match against New Zealand by 21 runs. The Men in Blue got a reality check as chasing 177 is not a big score in modern cricket and given the fact that they  bat deep. New Zealand bowlers were spot with their line & length as they didn’t give any ample room to the batters.

Mitchell Santner would be ecstatic with his performance as the spinner took 2 scalps and gave away 11 runs in his 4 overs spell. He rotated his bowlers smartly and his decision to play with 3 spinners did wonders for the team as Indian batters were clueless.

The dashing right handed batter Daryl Mitchell struck a terrific half-century and played an unbeaten knock of 59 runs in 30 balls where he struck 3 fours & 5 sixes. The batter was in complete control of the innings where he took calculative risks. In the 20th over, he whacked Arshdeep Singh all around park which gave Black Caps momentum.

India needs to go  back to the drawing board as Hardik’s decision to give Umran Malik a solitary over didn’t work well.  The Men in Blue need to quickly regroup and make a stellar comeback on 29th January (Sunday) as New Zealand would be keen to seal the T20I Series.

It is nice to contribute to a score –  Daryl Mitchell

During post match presentation, Daryl Mitchell was asked bout his performance. “It is nice to contribute to a score which helps us win a game. I thought the way the boys bowled at the end was pretty special. It is nice to take some momentum into the rest of the T20 series. The guys who went in early said it was pretty difficult against spin because of the tacky nature.” said Daryl Mitchell.

It was my job to build a partnership- Daryl Mitchell

“It was my job to build a partnership and then take the onus on myself after Conway’s departure. For me it is being really present and really clear, keeping it simple as possible and trusting my skills, not every-time it comes off in T20 cricket but it is always nice when you get a few off the middle.” he added.
