Ivana Trump’s cause of death has been revealed one day after she died at the age of 73.
On Friday, New York City’s chief medical examiner announced that the first wife of former President Donald Trump died in her New York City apartment Thursday after an accident involving “blunt impact injuries” to her torso, NBC News reported.
The circumstances of her death were consistent with a fall on the stairs, a senior New York City official with direct knowledge of the matter told the outlet. Details about what may have preceded the fall were not disclosed.
The businesswoman’s death was ruled an accident.
A spokesperson for the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner said the office will not comment further on the investigation beyond revealing the cause and manner of death, CNBC reported.
Ivana was found unresponsive on a staircase in her Manhattan home Thursday, New York Police Department officials confirmed to People.
The New York City Fire Department said it responded Thursday to a report of an individual suffering cardiac arrest at Ivana’s Upper East Side residence, according to NBC News.
She was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders, and no foul play or criminal activity was suspected, according to police officials.
Ivana shared three children — Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump and Eric Trump — with the former president, to whom she was married from 1977 to 1992. She remarried twice after their divorce but did not have any other children.
The Trump family confirmed Ivana’s passing in a statement shared to multiple outlets Thursday.
“Our mother was an incredible woman — a force in business, a world-class athlete, a radiant beauty, and caring mother and friend,” they said at the time. “Ivana Trump was a survivor. She fled from communism and embraced this country. She taught her children about grit and toughness, compassion and determination. She will be dearly missed by her mother, her three children and ten grandchildren.”
The former president first announced her death in a post on his social media site Truth Social, calling her a “wonderful, beautiful and amazing woman, who led a great inspirational life.”
Prior to her passing, Ivana had been preparing for a summer getaway to St. Tropez, France, her best friend Nikki Haskell told Page Six.
“She was leaving for St. Tropez tomorrow. This was going to be her first trip away since the pandemic. She was afraid of getting the virus,” Haskell said on the day of Ivana’s death.
“We were contemplating taking a trip around the world this January — take two months off and take a trip around the world. I just can’t believe it,” she added. “She was really looking forward to going to Europe… We had so much fun with Ivana on the boat. She was my best friend.”
