The stage is set for a huge eight-round boxing showdown between Jake Paul and Anderson Silva from Phoenix, Arizona on Sunday (all times AEDT).

YouTube star turned professional boxer Paul boasts a 5-0 (4KOs) record in the boxing ring, however this marks his first fight in 2022 and he comes up against his greatest ever combat opponent in MMA legend Silva.

While not as experienced in the boxing ring, former UFC middleweight champion Silva defended his title 10 times and has the longest win streak (16) in UFC history. He’s 2-0 since returning to the boxing ring in 2021 (3-1 overall).

The 47-year old Silva is the betting underdog despite his hall-of-fame worthy career against the 25-year old Paul.

Both Paul (186.5 pounds) and Silva (186.1 pounds) met their weigh ins on Saturday, scheduled at a 187-pound catchweight.

The pair embraced in an intense face-off on Saturday before Paul fiercely sprayed his rival, shouting several times: “I’m f***ing him up!”

So who will emerge from the unconventional clash at Desert Diamond Arena the winner?

The five-card fight also features former UFC standout Uriah Hall making his professional boxing debut against ex-NFL All-Pro running back Le’Veon Bell.

    DR MIKE DESTROYED

Social media phenomenon Dr Mike Varshavski is renowned for his medical discussions, having garnered him over 23 million followers online – and in 2015, he was named People Magazine’s Sexiest Doctor Alive.

But he was absolutely destroyed in a four-round brutalisation by former MMA beast Chris Avila.

On his professional debut, Varshavski copped ‘57 billion’ overhand rights in a one-way demolition job – but managed to survive the four rounds on his way to a unanimous decision loss (40-36×3).

“He showcased a lot of heart, a lot of resilience,” MMA legend Georges St-Pierre said in commentary.

It came after a wild weigh-in between the two yesterday, where Varshavski said: “I’m used to saving lives. And now I have to figure out how to do damage inside that ring. For me, I have to suspend my Hippocratic oath not to do damage. But you’ll see a boxer, not a doctor.”

Avila gave him a small shove when they squared up at the weigh-in, and delivered a barrage of words at his rival. Avila said afterwards: “I didn’t say s**t. F**k this fool, he’s a piece of s**t. F**k this little b***h, he’s a b***h.”
