Jennifer Aniston may have found her next rom-com co-star in Sebastian Stan.
The two stars recently interviewed each other for Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series, where they talked about their latest and most famous projects, including Aniston’s “The Morning Show” and “Friends” and Stan’s Hulu miniseries “Pam & Tommy” and Marvel Cinematic Universe films.
Their mutual love for romantic comedy films came up during the conversation after Aniston, 53, asked Stan, 39, about his favorite genre.
Stan revealed that one of his favorite films is Roger Michell’s 1999 romantic comedy “Notting Hill.”
“If I could live in ‘Notting Hill,’ the movie, forever, I would,” the “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” actor told Aniston. “There were a lot of those movies that were great.”
Aniston, who has starred in several romantic comedies including “The Break-Up,” “Just Go With It” and “He’s Just Not That Into You,” agreed and bemoaned the lack of rom-coms in modern-day filmmaking. She jokingly asked Stan to make one with her.
“Why do they have such a bad rap these days? ‘Cause wouldn’t it be fun to do one? Do you want to do it?” Aniston asked.
“I would do one in a second with you,” Stan replied, laughing.
Aniston and Stan then quickly made preliminary plans for the potential rom-com, with the actress asking him if he would be fine with shooting it in New York City.
“Yeah, that sounds great. They could probably write that very, very quickly,” Stan said.
The “Murder Mystery” actress then concluded, “Great. We’re gonna do a rom-com. So exciting. We’re bringing them back.”
The interview came after “Notting Hill” star Julia Roberts said in April that she hasn’t starred in a rom-com in the last two decades due to a lack of “good enough” material.
“People sometimes misconstrue the amount of time that’s gone by that I haven’t done a romantic comedy as my not wanting to do one,” Roberts told The New York Times Magazine. “If I had read something that I thought was that ‘Notting Hill’ level of writing or ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’ level of madcap fun, I would do it.”
She said that she hadn’t come across a great rom-com script until “Ticket to Paradise,” her upcoming movie with George Clooney.
Despite liking the script, the actress said that before her co-star came on board, she almost turned the movie down because she thought it would only work well opposite Clooney.
“Lo and behold, George felt it only worked with me. Somehow we were both able to do it, and off we went,” Roberts told the magazine, before gushing, “To go from John and Martha Mitchell [in ‘Gaslit’], to play these scenes with the greatest dramatic actor, I think, of my generation in Sean Penn, and then run around Australia with George playing these very funny scenes — I’m living my acting dreams.”
“Ticket to Paradise” will hit theaters on Oct. 21.
