Kanye West surprised his fans at Rolling Loud Miami Friday night.
The “Donda” artist was set to headline the opening night of the weekend-long hip-hop music festival when he suddenly pulled out of the event last week. Kid Cudi, born Scott Mescudi, replaced him as headliner, but fans of West at the festival were seemingly not pleased with the change, according to TMZ.
In a video from the festival shared on Twitter, Cudi was forced to stop in the middle of a song after he was hit in the face with a water bottle. He warned the crowd to stop throwing things and threatened to walk off the stage if another bottle was thrown in his direction.
“Yo, I will walk off this stage if ya’ll throw one more f—ing thing up here. I will leave,” he said in the video. “I will leave right now. Throw one more f—ing thing on this stage and I will walk off. I’m not f—ing playing. I’m not f—ing playing. You will ruin it for everybody. I will f—ing leave. If I get hit with one more f—ing thing … if I see one more f—ing thing on this f—ing stage, I’m leaving. Don’t f–k with me.”
But after his rant, someone from the audience hurled another bottle in Cudi’s direction. He eventually dropped the mic, said nothing and walked off the stage.
Some concertgoers appeared to continue throwing bottles, while a number of them resorted to booing Cudi as he left the stage. West’s fans also kept chanting his name.
Lil Durk later took the stage, and to the audience’s surprise, he brought out a special guest: West.
The Grammy winner performed “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1” from his “Life of Pablo” album.
West wore a futuristic set of shades and black paint on his face. His appearance was a total shock to the audience, which went silent before cheering, People reported.
There were speculations West performed the song as a diss to Cudi, who is featured on the track.
It’s unclear what prompted fans to throw bottles at Cudi or why West made a last-minute appearance after pulling out. Rolling Loud organizers previously said West’s departure was due to circumstances “outside” of their control.
In April, Cudi confirmed his beef with West while discussing his appearance on Pusha T’s new album, “It’s Almost Dry.”
“Hey! So I know some of you heard about the song I got with Pusha. I did this song a year ago when I was still cool with Kanye,” he wrote on Twitter. “I am not cool with that man. He’s not my friend and I only cleared the song for Pusha cuz (sic) that’s my guy. This is the last song you will hear me on with Kanye.”
Cudi and West had a falling-out due to the former’s friendship with Pete Davidson, who is dating West’s ex-wife Kim Kardashian.
West declared on social media that Cudi would not be on his “Donda 2” album after calling out the latter’s friendship with the “Saturday Night Live” alum.
Cudi fired back in the comments, writing, “Too bad I don’t want to be on your album you f—-n’ dinosaur hahaha,” adding, “everyone knows I’ve been the best thing about your albums since I met you. Ima pray you 4 (sic) brother.”
