Port Adelaide’s Karl Amon has officiated nominated Hawthorn as his club of choice ahead of the free agency period.

Channel 7’s Mitch Cleary reported Amon will join the Hawks on a four-year deal — a deal previously mooted to be worth up to $650,0o0 per season — with Hawthorn beating out Melbourne, St Kilda and previously Carlton in the race for his services.

Hawthorn list manager Mark McKenzie said the club was thrilled that the 27-year old would be making the move to Waverley Park as it confirmed his plans.

“It’s certainly great news for the club to hear that Karl wants to be a part of what we are building here at Hawthorn,” Hawks list manager Mark McKenzie said.

“Karl complements our current list strategy and the direction we are taking as a club.”

The AFL’s free agency period opens on Friday, September 30.

It was confirmed by Port Adelaide earlier this week Amon would explore his free agency options, putting an end to the midfielder/wingman’s eight-year, 124-game career at Alberton.

The Hawks and Saints has been most linked to Amon, with his mum working at St Kilda and he grew up barracking for the Moorabbin-based club, but he’s instead set to land at at Waverley Park.

It’s expected that the Power will receive an end-of-first-round or second-round draft pick as compensation for his exit.

Amon averaged 23.6 disposals, 5.8 marks and 4.1 inside 50s playing in all 22 games for the Port this season a year after his breakout 2021 campaign where he finished fourth in the club’s best and fairest.
