Krispy Kreme (DNUT) is shaking up its doughnut menu with some creamy additions that will include ice cream in cones, cups, and milkshakes.
The doughnut chain is offering the new ice cream menu in 10 U.S. markets to start and will then gradually roll out the new items to other locations, it said.
According to Krispy Kreme, the new Original Glazed Soft Serve Ice Cream is made with whole milk and ingredients from its “proprietary and secret” Original Glazed Doughnut recipe, including its glazed flavor.
The company is offering seven shakes that are hand-spun and flavored like its most popular doughnut flavors, including Original Glazed, Strawberry Iced Sprinkled, Chocolate Iced, Lemon Filled, Cookies & Kreme, Birthday Batter, and Coffee & Kreme.
Three flavors of cups and waffle cones are available – Original Glazed, Strawberry Iced Sprinkled, and Chocolate Iced – that use toppings made from dehydrated Original Glazed doughnuts.
“Our fans love Krispy Kreme doughnuts , and they also love rich, creamy, ice cream,” Dave Skena, Krispy Kreme chief marketing officer, said in a statement.
“We’re confident their love of ice cream and for Krispy Kreme is going to go to an entirely new level after they experience these deliciously unique shakes, cones and cups. We’re thrilled to begin our rollout on the first day of summer,” he added.
But fans of Krispy Kreme will only be able to get a taste of the new ice cream treat if they live in one of the 10 cities where the chain is offering the new menu items to start.
Shops serving up the ice cream dishes include Charlotte, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Greenville, South Carolina; Norfolk, and Newport News, Virginia; Charleston, West Virginia; Nashville and the Tri-Cities area, Tennessee; and San Antonio, Texas.
But not to worry, Krispy Kreme said shops in Mobile and Southwest, Alabama; Tampa, St. Petersburg , and Pensacola, Florida; New Orleans, Louisiana; Branson, Missouri; and Wichita, Kansas; will soon begin offering the Original Glazed Soft Serve.
