But the former captain won’t open the batting despite Michael Clarke’s call that he would be the leading run-scorer at the T20 World Cup if given the chance, with Glenn Maxwell elevated up the order in a bid for the all-rounder to rediscover his form.
“Maxi’s record opening the batting is as good as anyone in the game when you have a look at it, we back him to be able to take it on in the powerplay and see how we go from there,” said Aaron Finch, after the under-pressure captain sent England in after winning his third straight toss.
“You have some conversations but at the end of the day Maxi’s record over the years has been unbelievable, especially in that middle order, he’s someone who has a few ideas about the game and will tinker with them but you sort of let them go enough and then have some conversations here and there about it,” he added.

Finch admitted Australia had “probably” selected their best team on Wednesday ahead of their second match against England.
Unfortunately for Finch and his men, Australia lost by eight runs and questions are being asked whether it is the best XI.
Finch struggled on his way to 13 while Maxwell once again fell for a single-figure score – his sixth score of less than 10.
Maxwell’s all-round ability means he a certainty for the World Cup, but given the struggles Finch has experienced at the top of the order, Australia will desperately want both men to find some touch.
