A 10-man Liverpool outfit has survived another big scare, with Luis Diaz scoring a sensational goal as Reds settled for a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at Anfield on Tuesday morning.

Jurgen Klopp’s side dominated for large stages of the first half, with the expectation that a goal would eventually come but instead it was Palace that got on the board first.

Even sharpshooter Mohamed Salah could not execute close to the goal, sending an attempted shot in the 23rd minute off-target as frustrations grew.

An uncharacteristic Virgin Van Dijk long-range shot was only further proof of the frustration building at Anfield as the goals continued to elude Liverpool.

Palace though remained patient and took its chance when it presented itself, with a superb counter attack ending with Wilfried Zaha curling the ball into the corner.

The visitors almost made it two goals in the 42nd minute when Alisson made a crucial block on Zaha, who was hunting a double.

A late attempt at goal from Darwin Núñez in stoppage time hit the posts, summing up Liverpool’s performance in the first half — close but just not close enough.

Unfortunately for Núñez, his night would come to a premature end in the 57th minute after the new recruit was sent off for a headbutt on Joachim Andersen.

Núñez, who signed with Liverpool for an initial fee of €75 million ($A108m), scored in a 2-2 draw with Fulham last week but had a forgettable outing on Monday.

It looked like Liverpool was on the verge of a shock defeat until Diaz stepped up when they needed it most, beating three defenders before putting a superb strike in the corner.

Zaha had a chance to get his second in the 78th minute when Odsonne Édouard crossed it into the box but the Palace star could not finish it off, sending his volley wide.
