A former employee who worked for former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo was killed after a disagreement with a Lyft driver who forced his group out of the vehicle in the middle of the highway, resulting in a fatal car crash.
The altercation and resulting crash occurred on Sunday around 1:44 a.m. on the Coastal Highway in Delaware. Sidney Wolf, 43, and a group of five others ordered a Lyft to pick them up from Dewey Beach and take them to Bethany Beach, according to a statement released by Delaware State Police about the incident.
“A disagreement occurred between the group and the Lyft operator. The Lyft operator terminated the ride and stopped in the middle of the southbound left lane and demanded all six passengers exit the vehicle,” the statement said.
As the Lyft driver pulled over, a 2016 Toyota Corolla behind the car attempted to get over, but as Wolf exited the right side of the Lyft, the 27-year-old driver of the Corolla hit him. That driver pulled over to help following the crash, but the Lyft driver fled from the scene. That driver has yet to be identified.
Cuomo took to Twitter to express how shocked he was to hear the news and gave his condolences to Wolf’s family.
“Shocked & saddened to hear this tragic news. Sid was a phenomenal public servant who worked relentlessly for the betterment of all NY’ers My heart goes out to Lindsey & his two young daughters,” Cuomo said.
Cuomo resigned from his post as Governor after multiple sexual harassment allegations emerged against him in 2021. The scandal also caused his brother, Chris Cuomo, to lose his job as an anchor at CNN after it was revealed that he had helped give his brother advice regarding the complaints.
