Doughnut and coffee chain Krispy Kreme and fast-food giant McDonald’s announced a trial partnership Tuesday in which doughnuts would be sold at McDonald’s restaurants.

The move comes as Krispy Kreme advances its doughnut delivery services to external stores like gas stations and as McDonald’s looks to expand its bakery items.

There will be nine locations in Louisville, Kentucky, taking part in the trial, which starts on Oct. 26.

“This is our first partnership with McDonald’s in the US as we constantly look for new ways to increase access to fresh doughnuts through our delivered fresh daily network,” Krispy Kreme explained in a release.

Three different types of doughnuts will be delivered daily to McDonald’s restaurants by Krispy Kreme as part of the trial.

McDonald’s hopes to learn more about how customers react to offering various bakery items on its menu through the trial. It has also recently added other bakery items for the first time like apple fritters and cinnamon rolls.

“This small-scale test will help us understand how offering new bakery items like Krispy Kreme could impact operations in our restaurants,” McDonald’s said in a press release.

McDonald’s recently announced that it would not bring back its all-day breakfast menu after ending it at the start of the pandemic.
