Meghan Markle would face two problems if she decides to enter the political world, according to a royal biographer.
On Thursday, British author and investigative journalist Tom Bower — whose unauthorized biography on Markle and Prince Harry, “Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the war between the Windsors,” recently made headlines — weighed in on the Duchess of Sussex’s rumored political aspirations during an interview on MailPlus’ “Palace Confidential” podcast.
The former BBC journalist and television producer said he believes that Prince Harry’s wife would like a political role once their children, Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 1, start attending school and could “build the foundations for it” in the coming years. International Business Times could not independently verify his claims.
But if she does decide to pursue a political career, Markle would have to settle for a smaller income and must have thicker skin, according to Bower.
“Her problem is twofold: One is that it’s very badly paid and Meghan needs a lot of money to live, and secondly, you’ve got to be pretty tough in a political fight,” Bower said on the podcast. “Whether she has the ability to be so tough and insensitive to go with the rocks and rolls, we’ll see – she can’t sue people as she’d like to in Britain for attacking her.”
But Bower said he feels that Markle has a “good chance” of succeeding if she does run for office.
“She’s a very good-looking woman, she’s sassy, she’s got her issues like parental rights – there have been worse people who have been congresswomen, so there’s a good chance,” he claimed.
Bower’s comments came days after author and former “View” co-host Meghan McCain mocked the idea of Markle potentially running for office.
“Meghan is floating running for president, which I just think would be absolutely hilarious because you know America is a big place,” McCain told Dan Wootton on GB News. “She would have to go to red states with people who make under $100,000 a year. She’d have to go to state fairs. She’d have to meet people who love God and love the Constitution.”
McCain went on to claim that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s problem is that “they’re staying in those city enclaves in New York and California” and are “not really meeting Americans.”
Markle has not addressed the rumors that she may pursue a political career following her and Prince Harry’s exit from the royal family.
However, the duchess’ estranged father Thomas Markle said in a previous interview with GB News that the rumor that his daughter has political ambitions was a “joke.”
“I don’t think she has any ambition to be a mayor. I don’t think she has any ambition to be a governor or president. I don’t think that’s in her mind at all,” Thomas claimed.
