    WHAT PRIZEMONEY IS ON OFFER?

A total of $8 million, the same as last year. It’s broken down as follows:

    1st $4.4 million, 2nd: $1.1 million, 3rd: $550,000, 4th: $350,000, 5th: $230,000, 6th-12th: $160,000

    WHO WON IT LAST YEAR?

Raging favourite Incentivise was upstaged as reigning Australian horse of the year Verry Elleegant stormed to a thrilling upset victory under a brilliant ride from James McDonald.

Incentivise — the shortest-priced favourite since Phar Lap — finished in second with import Spanish Mission in third.

Verry Elleegant won’t be defending her crown this year — the 11-time Group One-winning horse has been retired.

WHO ARE THE FAVOURITES THIS YEAR?

English import Deauville Legend ($3.70) is the clear favourite, firming after second favourite Loft was scratched and then drawing gate 9 in the barrier draw.

It is the only horse at single-figure odds, with Without a Fight ($11), Montefilia ($11), Gold Trip ($12) and Realm of Flowers ($12) next best in the market.
