Cincoro, a tequila owned by five different NBA team owners including Michael Jordan, announced Wednesday that it will be releasing Cincoro Gold described as an “ultra-luxury” bottle apart of its label.
Jordan, arguably the greatest basketball player of all-time, is part of a long list of celebrities who have attached their names to tequila brands. Actor George Clooney and reality television star Kendall Jenner have also been involved in tequila brands.
Tequila purchases have helped luxury spirits reportedly grow by 43% in 2021 compared to 2021.
Cincoro Gold is a blend of all four of its other tequilas including Cincoro Blanco, Reposado, Anejo, and Extra Anejo. It will cost $349.99 a bottle and becomes available in October.
“Cincoro Gold joins only a handful of 100% de Agave Gold tequilas. This rare tequila blends all four Cincoro expressions, with generous amounts of Cincoro Extra Anejo tequila, which is barrel aged for more than 40 months,” said Emilia Fazzalari, Cincoro chief executive officer and co-founder, in the press release.
Cincoro launched in 2019 by NBA owners Jeanie Buss of the Los Angeles Lakers, Wes Edens of the Milwaukee Bucks, Emilia Fazzalari and Wyc Grousbeck of the Boston Celtics, and Jordan of the Charlotte Hornets.
There will only be 4,000 bottles available in the first release and it will come in an “award-winning bottle with a distinctive gold finish.” The bottle is also five-sided to represent an agave plant and the five co-founders.
The lowest price brand starts at $89.99 for Blanco, then goes up to $109.99 for Reposado, $149.99 for Anejo, and $349.99 for Gold. The Extra Anejo is the most expensive at $1,699.99 a bottle.
CNBC reported in February that tequila may overtake vodka — the top-selling spirit in the U.S. since the 1970s — as the preferred liquor in the country.
According to the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States, there were 78.1 million 9-liter cases of vodka sold in the U.S. in 2021, generating $7.3 billion in revenue for distillers. But since 2002, tequila volumes have grown at an average rate of 6.2% per year.
Casamigos Blanco is the best-selling tequila brand.
