Most Grounds Hosting Men’s ODI In A Country

The second IND vs NZ ODI was played at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur on January 21, 2023. The stadium became the 50th ODI venue for men’s cricket in India. In the process, India also became the first country in the world to have 50 cricket grounds. 

In a clinical performance, the Indian bowlers bowled out the Kiwis for just 109. Mohammed Shami took three wickets and started the slide in the Kiwi batting lineup. Hardik Pandya and Washington Sundar took two each while Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav and Shardul Thakur took one each.

Rohit Sharma scored 51 off 50 balls to lead the charge for India. Shubman Gill scored an unbeaten 40 to take India home and complete the series win. The third ODI will be played on January 24 in Indore.

Both sides have played 115 ODIs between themselves with India winning 57 games and the Kiwis winning 50. Bilateral series between both teams have been always closely contested and the ongoing series is also expected to be the same.

After the ODI series, both teams then play a three-match T20I series. The T20Is will be played in Ranchi (January 27), Lucknow (January 29), and Ahmedabad (February 1) respectively.

As said earlier, India leads the list with 50 venues that have hosted a men’s ODI. The capacity crowd at the  Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium is almost 62000 which is the third-highest after the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The stadium was packed as it witnessed an easy Indian win. Venues that often host men’s ODI cricket in India are Bangalore, Mumbai, Nagpur, Indore, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Chennai amongst others.
