At least seven people in the Pacific Northwest have died in recent days due to hypothermia caused by a heatwave.

The heatwave mainly affected Oregon and Washington, along with parts of northern California, northern Nevada, Idaho and Montana. The region saw temperatures reach triple digits.

Officials said an elderly man died after his air conditioning unit stopped working in the Oregon county of Clackamos. The six other deaths occurred in the Oregon counties of Multnomah, Umatilla and Marion counties.

The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning for both the Portland and Seattle regions through Sunday.

“Excessive and record-setting heat is again expected to continue for the Pacific Northwest through today as daytime highs reach well over 100 degrees and nighttime lows drop only down into the upper 60s to low 70s,” the NWS said.

Many parts of the U.S. have been hit by extreme heat but the Pacific Northwest was among the more deadly areas.

“Several record high temperatures are likely to be set and there are Excessive Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories in effect for a large area of the Pacific Northwest and extending east into the northern Great Basin,” the NWS said.

Here's a look at forecast high #temperatures for #Sunday and there departure from climatology.
