Phoebe Gates, the youngest daughter of American business magnate Bill Gates, has become the latest target of trolls after she posted a photo of herself with her rumored boyfriend, a Black man, on social media.
The 19-year-old Stanford University student took to Instagram to share a photo of herself being kissed on the cheek by the man, whose identity remains unknown, as they sat side by side, the New York Post reported. Speculations about the two being a couple is not concrete, and International Business Times could not verify the report independently.
Phoebe’s post quickly made a buzz, with trolls sending out vile racist remarks directed at the duo. They were quick to joke about Phoebe’s inheritance and the interracial relationship. The photo has also made rounds on Twitter, where users made jokes about how lucky the man is, hinting at her father’s fame and wealth.
“I need to learn whatever prayer phoebe gates’ bf prayed because how? My good brotha just hit the jackpot,” one of them said.
“This was the dream MLK spoke of my dawg about to inherit generational wealth if he play his cards right,” another person noted as they shared a photo of social activist Martin Luther King.
Meanwhile, some implied in their tweets that Phoebe’s father would do anything to stop her from being with the unnamed man.
“Bill gates bout to make a whole new virus just to end this relationship,” one individual wrote. “Who would’ve thought that with the ongoing climate crisis Bill Gate’s daughter would partake in smoking coal.”
Phoebe, the youngest child of Bill, 66, and his ex-wife, Melinda, 57, regularly uses social media to advocate for women’s health. She hit the headlines last month for her post supporting abortion rights before Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. Her post, which was accompanied by a full-body photo of herself in a bikini, also encouraged people to choose whatever they want for themselves and their bodies.
“I’m not shy about my body and/or telling you to keep your bans off of it,” she wrote at the time.
