Tennessee — Former President Donald Trump on Saturday wished President Joe Biden well after he fell from his bicycle in Delaware, marking a rare moment of goodwill between the two politicians.
Speaking at his American Freedom tour in Memphis, TN, Trump said he wishes Biden a quick recovery following the accident.
“I hope he has recovered because, as you know, he fell off his bicycle today,” Trump said during his speech.
“We do hope that Biden is okay, because that was a hard fall. That was scary … We wish him well in that respect.”
However, despite his well-wishes during the rally, Trump later appeared to mock Biden’s fall after he shared an edited video on his Truth Social account showing him hitting Biden in the head with a golf ball and knocking him off his bicycle.
Biden fell off his bike on Saturday morning while riding near his home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. The president had been trying to dismount when his foot got caught in a toe clip. Biden immediately stood up after the fall, saying “I’m good” to a small crowd of onlookers and reporters before he stopped for a short interview.
The president did not appear to have any injuries following the incident. The White House also noted that he did not require medical attention following the fall.
“The President said his foot got caught on the pedal while dismounting and he is fine. No medical attention is needed,” a White House official said in a statement. “The President looks forward to spending the rest of the day with his family.”
Biden and his wife, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, are spending a long weekend at their home in Rehoboth Beach. The couple celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on Friday just before Father’s Day weekend.
Biden is not the only American president to take a tumble in public. In 2004, President George W. Bush fell off his mountain bike in the 16th mile of a 17-mile trip around his ranch in Crawford, Texas. The president sustained minor injuries due to the incident.
In 2005, Bush also crashed into a police officer from the Strathclyde Police Department in Scotland. He suffered scrapes on his hands and arms in the incident. The police officer suffered a bruised ankle.
