Red Stars’ Bianca St. Georges ejected after flipping double birds at referee

Chicago Red Stars defender Bianca St. Georges received a red card and was ejected from their 3-0 loss to the Portland Thorns on Sunday after she flipped a pair of middle fingers at the official.

St. Georges, in the 58th minute of the match in Portland, was defending Meghan Klingenberg on the sidelines when the ball went off her foot and out of bounds. As Klingenberg quickly went to grab the ball and throw it back in, St. Georges appeared to start to do the same — thinking the ball went off on Klingenberg instead.

After the official disagreed, St. Georges made her feelings known in the form of a NSFW obscene double gesture.

Though it was quick, the main referee quickly gave her a red card for the middle fingers and ejected her from the contest.

Chicago, which was down 1-0 at the time, then had to play with 10 players the rest of the way. That didn’t go well, as Morgan Weaver scored just three minutes later to put the Thorns up 2-0. They got a third late after Taylor Porter scored in stoppage time to officially give them the 3-0 win.

“I’m really excited and really happy,” said Weaver, who scored the first goal for Portland, too, . “We have worked so hard this year and I think it just keeps showing every day on the field. There’s times where we haven’t won games, our supporters were here for us, and we knew we had their backs. And we wanted to do it for us as well.”

The loss marked the second straight for the Red Stars, who now hold a 8-7-6 overall record and sit in seventh in the NWSL standings. The Thorns still hold the best record in the league at 10-3-8.
