Rodgers Seeks MVP 3-Peat

Aaron Rodgers has been the NFL’s best player over the last two years, winning back-to-back MVP awards. After losing his top receiver in the offseason, the Green Bay Packers’ quarterback won’t have an easy time winning the award for a historic third straight time.

Four players are given a better chance to win the 2022 NFL MVP award than Rodgers at FanDuel Sportsbook. Josh Allen is the MVP favorite with +700 odds. Both Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady have +800 odds. Even Justin Herbert is ahead of Rodgers with +900 odds to win the award.

Rodgers has +1000 odds to win the fifth MVP award of his career. The quarterback is just ahead of Dak Prescott (+1200) and Joe Burrow (+1200).

In each of the last two seasons, Rodgers led the league in passer rating, touchdown percentage and interception rate. Rodgers threw for 4,115 yards, 37 touchdowns and just four interceptions in 2021, leading the Packers to a third straight NFC North championship.

Davante Adams, Rodgers’ favorite target by a good margin, was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders in the offseason. Adams had 238 catches for 2,927 yards and 29 touchdowns over the last two years. His absence creates a glaring hole in the Packers’ receiving corps, which projects to be among the worst in the league.

If Rodgers is going to win another MVP, he’ll have to do it with Allen Lazard, Sammy Watkins and Christian Watson as his top wide receivers. Neither Lazard nor Watkins has recorded more than 513 yards in either of the last two seasons. Watson was the No. 34 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. 

The Packers are -170 favorites to win the NFC North. Only the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have better odds to win what’s considered to be a relatively weak conference. Rodgers will be a leading MVP candidate if Green Bay has one of the best records in the NFC.

Rodgers has thrown fewer than nine interceptions in 11 straight seasons. His 104.5 passer rating is the highest of any quarterback in history who has played more than five years in the NFL.

Another Green Bay quarterback was the last player to win three straight MVP awards. Brett Favre did it from 1995-1997, winning a Super Bowl along the way.

Rodgers was also named the NFL MVP in 2011 and 2014.
