The Russian army has launched another series of missile strikes across Ukraine, killing and injuring more than a dozen civilians, according to Ukrainian officials.

On the night of Jan. 9, one of the shells launched by the Russian army fell onto a junction in a residential area in Kherson, killing at least one civilian, as reported by Kyrylo Tymoshenko, deputy head of the Office of President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“The invaders have shelled the city once again. A shell fell right onto a junction in a residential area,” Tymoshenko wrote in a Telegram post, as translated by Ukrainska Pravda. “The shell caused a fire to start in a private residential building.”

Missiles also struck the village of Nevske in the Luhansk region, killing two civilians and injuring two others, Head of the Luhansk Oblast Military Administration Serhii Haidai said.

“The Russians are pounding Nevske. The village does not have a single building intact, but there are still more than a hundred civilians there. Two civilians were killed there and two more were injured as a result of enemy shelling this afternoon,” Haidai wrote on Telegram.

In the city of Ochakiv in Mykolaiv Oblast, Russian shelling wounded at least 15 civilians, including a 2-year-old child, as of 8:45 p.m. local time, according to the Head of Mykolaiv Oblast Military Administration Vitalii Kim. Officials have yet to report any deaths as a result of the strikes.

In Kharkiv Oblast, two people were also killed and six were wounded in Monday’s missile strikes targeting the settlement of Shevchenkove. The village was liberated by Ukrainian forces in September after more than six months of Russian occupation, Gov. Oleh Syniehubov noted.

It is unclear how many Ukrainian civilians have now died as a result of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. However, estimates from the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) put deaths among Ukrainian civilians at 6,919 from Feb. 24, 2022, to Jan. 2, 2023. The death toll includes 6,490 adults and 429 children.

In addition, the OHCHR said at least 11,075 civilians have now been wounded as a result of shellings.
