Daniele International is recalling various sausage products, as they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Thousands of pounds of the products were distributed throughout the country.

The issue was discovered during a routine inspection, according to the announcement on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) website. Specifically, L. monocytogenes was reportedly identified on the surfaces that came in contact with the recalled products.

Eating food that’s contaminated with the germ can cause the “serious infection” Listeriosis. Among those at higher risk of getting severe listeriosis are the elderly, those with weakened immune systems, pregnant women and newborns.

In the case of pregnant women, the illness may lead to stillbirth, miscarriage, premature birth or a life-threatening infection in the newborn, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

No illnesses linked to the consumption of the recalled products have been reported as of the announcement, but those with concerns may contact their health care providers.

“Persons in the higher-risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months after eating contaminated food should seek medical care and tell the health care provider about eating the contaminated food,” the FSIS noted.

Daniele International’s recall covers several ready-to-eat sausage products. They include certain Frederick’s by meijer Spanish Style charcuterie sampler tray, Boar’s Head Charcuterie Trio, Colameco’s Primo Naturale Genoa Uncured Salami and Primo Naturale Black Pepper Uncured Salami. Three Del Duca product varieties are also included in the recall along with a Gourmet Selection product.

Customers may find the specific variants, sizes and “sell by” or “use by” dates of the recalled products on the FSIS website, while the labels are available here. These products are said to have the establishment number “EST. 54” inside the USDA mark of inspection, according to the FSIS. They were reportedly shipped to retail locations “nationwide” from Dec. 23, 2022, to Jan. 17, 2023.

In total, 52,912 pounds of the products are affected by the recall.

“FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ refrigerators,” the agency noted. “Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”

Customers with questions about the recall may contact the company at 401-568-6228.
