Australia’s squad for the Test series against the West Indies is in with three players axed from last summer’s triumphant Ashes group.

Michael Neser, Jhye Richardson and Mitchell Swepson have all missed out from the 13-man squad, named by Cricket Australia on Tuesday.

Victoria cult hero Scott Boland has been retained alongside the pace trio of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood with a bowling shootout for three spots looming.

Meanwhile, opener Marcus Harris has been re-called to the Test squad having been axed during last summer’s Ashes and overlooked for the tour of Sri Lanka. He’s second on the Sheffield Shield run charts this season having made 287 runs at 57.40 from three matches.

Head selector George Bailey said that the left-hander was back in the frame off the back of a strong start to the domestic season.

“Marcus Harris retains his place after continuing to perform for Gloucestershire in the English County competition and a strong start to the Marsh Sheffield Shield season,” Bailey said today.

“After some larger squads for the subcontinent tours over the winter, we have returned to a very similar squad to that which performed strongly last summer in comprehensively winning the Ashes.”

Meanwhile, Travis Head has been picked in Australia’s ODI team as a likely replacement for the retired Aaron Finch.
