Matty Johns knows how to crack a joke or two but he was the subject of a cheeky one as the rugby league legend and AFL great Jonathan Brown sat down with Shaquille O’Neal.
The pair were speaking to the four-time NBA champion ahead of the sold-out event — ‘An Evening with Shaquille O’Neal’ presented by The Hour Group — which is available for purchase on Main Event Pay-Per-View.
The trio covered a number of topics, including O’Neal claiming a rare ‘black kangaroo’ sighting before moving on to his decorated career on the court.

Given his sheer size and power, Johns was interested to see if O’Neal had received any offers to play in the NFL.
He had not, although the 50-year-old reckoned he could have made the switch to American football for one simple reason.
“Because my hands are impeccable,” he said.
“You’ve got the big hands,” Brown replied, adding: “This man’s [Matty] nickname to finish off with is tiny hands.”
The basketball legend then jokingly replied: “You know what they say about men with tiny hands”, to which Johns had a cheeky comeback of his own: “Yes. It makes their d*** look big.”
“I haven’t heard that one buddy,” O’Neal replied.
It was not all laughs though as Johns and Brown got to know the gentle side of this basketball giant.
O’Neal revealed that he once wanted to do a show in Los Angeles focussing on helping homeless people and that part of his plans involved better understanding their experiences.
“I wanted to dress up as a homeless guy and stay with homeless people for 30 days,” he said.
“But the costume didn’t work. Everybody recognised me.”
When asked where his generosity comes from, the four-time NBA champion simply said it is just “about making people smile”.
“My mother always used to tell me make them remember your name,” O’Neal said.
“And when it’s all said and done, and they say, ‘Hey, you met Shaq, how was he?’ ‘Shaq was a nice guy, period.’ Not, ‘Shaq has this much money, Shaq owns this company…’
“None of that matters. ‘Was he nice? Was his people nice?’ That’s all that matters to me.”
