“Sister Wives” star Leon Brown took to Instagram on Tuesday to announce that they are transgender and shared their pronouns.
“Someone recently told me that i didn’t have to have all of my shit figured out in order for me to share myself with the world,” they wrote alongside two photos of themselves.
Brown went on to share that they are “trans” and “my name is Leon or Leo (i love both) and my pronouns are they/them.” They also reflected the time when they first learned about not being girl.
“I was pretty young & unfortunately i grew up in a context that was incredibly gendered & restrictive,” they added. “So i continued to be socialized as a girl & later a woman. and here’s the thing, i’m finally ready to share my favorite self with the world. and that self is incredibly genderqueer, trans, and unapologetic.”
Brown added that being queer and transgender are some of their favourite parts of themselves.
“Yet, there are so many things that i am learning to love about myself through this process,” they continued. “Here’s to me getting to know myself, share myself, and continually evolve to be the person i am, to be my favorite self in all contexts.”
Towards the end of the post, they noted that the reason behind this post was to make everyone aware of their name and pronouns. However, if someone “choose to not use” their name correctly, then they should not speak to or about them.
“My pronouns are they/them,” Brown concluded. “Please only refer to me in that way.”
Brown’s sister, Ysabel Brown took to the comments section to encourage her sister. “Proud of you for being true to yourself! that’s a beautiful thing and very inspiring for many.”
Fans also took to the comments section to share their reactions.
“Sounds like that person was on a journey of self healing themselves. Proud of you for being true to you sweet friend, Leo,” a fan wrote while another fan added, ” I love your boundaries!! So proud of you!!.”
Brown has been a regular on TLC show, “Sister Wives” since 2010.
