The South Sydney Rabbitohs have reportedly confirmed that the club will play their home games at Accor Stadium in Homebush for the 2023 season.

While the Rabbitohs were reportedly eager to make the shift to the new and improved Allianz Stadium in Moore Park, they will instead remain at their current home ground.

Souths’ decision will be announced to members and fans this week according to The Daily Telegraph.

The Rabbitohs will reportedly play eight games at Sydney Olympic Park, one fixture at Allianz Stadium and three across Australia and potentially New Zealand.

While their immediate future at Accor Stadium is secured, the club has refused to commit to the venue for any longer than a single season.

The Rabbitohs potential stadium shift came after the New South Wales government’s backflip on promises to upgrade the venue.

The withdrawal of funding forced the club to consider other options, leading to discussions with the government.

Souths were interested in moving to Moore Park and chief executive Blake Solly will continue to liase with Venues NSW and government officials.

“What we are asking for is a rectangular stadium that brings the fans closer to the action and refurbished corporate suites,” Solly said The Daily Telegraph.

“A couple of hundred million dollars. We want to stay at Accor and we are the only people who believe in it and are fighting for the government to upgrade it.

“They have changed their minds four or five times, and are not giving us any response to our request.”

The Rabbitohs remain confident that a decision regarding the upgrade of Homebush will be made next year, which will play a part in whether club chooses to remain at Accor Stadium in 2024.
