After 24 reports of injuries, ShelterLogic Group has issued a recall for its RIO-branded Swinging Hammock Chairs due to an assembly issue.

The recall affects about 786,000 chairs that could be improperly assembled, which could lead to an injury hazard.

    — US Consumer Product Safety Commission (@USCPSC) June 30, 2022

According to the recall notice, improper insertion of the pins used for assembly of the chair could cause the legs to collapse, which may injure the person using the Swinging Hammock Chair.

The chairs can be identified by their black or gray metal frame with fabric seat and backrest with a pillow. Some of the chairs also have a drink holder.

The chairs were sold in gray, navy, blue, red, and camouflage and have the words RIO printed below the pillow. A warning tag on the back of the chair’s backrest or armrest also signifies that it has been recalled.

The recalled chairs were sold at Blain’s Farm & Fleet, Camping World, Costco, Lowe’s, and Tractor Supply Company stores nationwide as well as online at Amazon.com, CampWorld.com, Costco.com, Lowes.com, and Walmart.com from January 2020 to June 2022.

Cost of the chairs ranged from $40 to $60.

To remedy the problem, ShelterLogic Group is providing new assembly instructions for users. Consumers should immediately stop using the hammock chairs until they have reviewed the new instructions and properly inserted the pins into the chair’s legs as outlined in the instructions.

New assembly instructions can be obtained by contacting the company or visiting Safety.ShelterLogic.com

Questions about the recall can be directed to ShelterLogic at 1-888-635-3359, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET or by email at RIOcare@shelterlogic.com or online at Safety.ShelterLogic.com or rio.shelterlogic.com by clicking on “Product Recalls” at the top of the page for more information.

ShelterLogic issued the recall after receiving 24 reports of injuries that included bruises, aches and pains, head lacerations, back strain, concussions, and abrasions after consumers fell while using the affected hammock chairs.
