On an embarrassing day for the Swans, only five players walked away with pass marks.

The rest will want to forget Grand Final day 2022 very quickly.

    1. Chad Warner

One of the few winners on a nightmare day for his team. Tried to get the Swans going in the second term with an eight-disposal first quarter. Finished with two majors, 29 disposals, 18 contested possessions, 10 clearances and six tackles. 8

    2. Hayden McLean

Took until midway through the second term to touch the ball — and plucked an unlikely one-handed mark that set up an easy set-shot goal. Little impact outside of that. 3

    3. Dylan Stephens

Barely sighted early. Eight of his 12 touches came in the second half when the game was over. 3

    4. Ryan Clarke

As expected, went straight to Tom Stewart to play a defensive run-with role. Kept the All-Australian star very quiet. 6

    5. Isaac Heeney

A stinker for the star. Didn’t have a touch in the first term, so was thrown into the midfield at the start of the second quarter. Took until deep into the second term to win a disposal then added a goal just before half-time. Just one goal from 11 touches. 2

    8. James Rowbottom

Quintessentially tough at the contest, but barely had any impact offensively early in the game. Finished with 16 touches, eight clearances and six tackles. 5

    9. Will Hayward

Kicked the Swans’ first goal of the game, but little impact on the game after that. Tough day to be a half-forward. 4

    11. Tom Papley

Overall well held by underrated Cats defender Jed Bews. Had a team-high six score involvements and kicked a late junk time goal. Finished with 20 touches. 4

    13. Ollie Florent

Tried to get the Swans going from half-back a few times but with little effect. 3

    14. Callum Mills

Tried to ignite his team with a long-range second quarter goal. Went at 100 per cent by foot but just the 13 disposals. 4

    16. Braeden Campbell

Started as the Swans’ sub. Came on in the second half and had just four touches. 2

    20. Sam Reid

Got up for the game, but looked far from 100 per cent and was getting worked under the ball too easily. Swans copped lots of backlash from fans for playing him. He gets a 2, but the selection gets a 1. 2

    21. Errol Gulden

Had the 14 disposals, but went at 55 per cent by foot. 3

    22. Nick Blakey

Was under siege all day, winning all of his touches in the defensive half. Couldn’t generate any drive. 4

    23. Lance Franklin

His sixth Grand Final — and his worst. His first goalless Grand Final. Well beaten by Jack Henry. Now has ample motivation to make amends in 2023 after re-signing with the club. 2

    24. Dane Rampe

Had the four intercepts and struggled to hold up under immense pressure. 4

    26. Luke Parker

Couldn’t have done much more for his team, especially when the game was up for grabs. Finished with 23 disposals and game-high 14 tackles. 7

    27. Justin McInerney

Began on the wing next to Mark O’Connor. Just the seven touches in a very quiet game. 2

    30. Tom McCartin

Went to Tom Hawkins, who unfortunately got the first two goals of the match from the ruck. Had a team-high seven intercepts, but two horror moments at the start of the third term led directly to Cats goals. 3

    31. Tom Hickey

After two epic finals, well beaten in the Grand Final. Didn’t help that he had little support from his teammates. 5

    39. Paddy McCartin

Not Paddy’s day. Struggled to pluck intercept marks in defence and was then thrown forward late where he kicked a goal. 3

    42. Robbie Fox

Can hold his head high. Surprisingly went to Jeremy Cameron at the first bounce and kept the superstar quiet for most of the match, outside of a couple of junk time goals. Also gave the Swans good drive from defence. Finished with 26 disposals and went at 83 per cent by foot. 7

    44. Jake Lloyd

    Just the 18 disposals off half-back. 4
