GIANT MAKES A CALL ON NEW HOME
GWS midfielder Tanner Bruhn will request a trade to Geelong, reports AFL Media’s Cal Twomey.
The 20-year-old has settled on the Cats over North Melbourne and Hawthorn, after previously rejecting a two-year extension to remain at the Giants.
Bruhn grew up in the Geelong area and played his underage footy at the Geelong Falcons before being selected with pick 12 at the 2020 national draft.
He would have been a consideration for the Cats if they had picks in that range in that draft year, but famously traded three first-rounders for Jeremy Cameron.
Bruhn debuted in Round 1 of 2021 but ended up playing 30 games across his first two years, including 17 this past season.
The Cats are also said to be in the mix for Collingwood’s Ollie Henry, who could join his brother Jack at the club.
TICKING CLOCK A GOOD SIGN FOR BRISBANE
Western Bulldogs midfielder Josh Dunkley is more likely to leave Brisbane than Port Adelaide if we don’t hear a decision from him over the next week, according to Seven’s Mitch Cleary.
Dunkley is still weighing up his options with the Power trying to target players with links to South Australia – in Dunkley’s case, his partner Tippah Dwan who plays netball in Adelaide.
But the Lions are also in the mix and according to Cleary, it may be no coincidence that Dunkley is yet to reveal his decision, and that Brisbane is still alive in the flag race.
That’s because players often – but not always – wait until their preferred destination club is out of the finals before announcing they want a trade there.
“All the talk around this one has been Port Adelaide, and rightly so, they’re after a big midfielder and it’s sort of been the missing link for them,” Cleary said.
“The Dogs have been out (of the finals) for a week, the Power have been out since the end of the season.
“My theory is if he doesn’t announce Port Adelaide in the next seven days, he’s more likely to go to Brisbane, because the Lions are still in the finals.
“Players don’t usually like to announce where they’re going if the team is still in the finals, that’s why we saw Hopper and Taranto have to wait until the last week when Richmond went out.
“If he doesn’t announce Port this week, I think Brisbane come into favouritism on that one.”
